Soy wax is a natural and renewable wax derived from soybean oil. It is produced through a process called hydrogenation, which transforms soybean oil into a solid form suitable for candle making. Soy wax is an eco-friendly alternative to traditional paraffin wax, as soybeans are a sustainable and biodegradable resource. Soy wax candles burn cleaner and slower than paraffin candles, producing less soot and releasing fewer toxins in the air. They also have a lower melting point, which allows for longer burning times and better scent dispersion. Overall, soy wax is valued for its environmentally friendly properties, clean-burning characteristics, and versatility in candle making.

With soy wax being a 100% natural product they can develop some ‘frosting’ on the surface of the wax, this is normal and is caused by the wax crystallising slightly. Soy wax is susceptible to sudden environmental changes, such as temperature and humidity changes. This can sometimes cause ‘wet spots’ to appear within the glass of the candle. This is where air bubbles or ‘water’ are visible within the candle but this is actually the soy wax expanding or contracting within the glass, and it is just where the adhesion of the wax has released slightly from the glass itself.

These characteristics do not affect the quality of the product or the quality of burn or fragrance. It is a natural characteristic of soy wax and is evidence of the product being 100% natural with no additives present.

Candles should be burned for a maximum of 4 hours at any one time. The melt pool should be allowed to reach the edges of the glass on the first burn. Occasionally on 30cl or larger candles it may not fully reach the edges on first burn, however, this does not effect any subsequent burns as long as the melt pool is reached in each subsequent burn.

Ensure that your wick is no longer than 1/4” inch at any time as this can cause the wick to ‘mushroom’, cause an uneven flame, produce excessive soot or smoke. It is recommended to use wick trimmers to remove any excess burnt wick before lighting.
